COVID-19 has completely altered our world. At home, the situation has left children and families without structure, where changing family dynamics and routine trigger stress and worry in a child. While the mental health industry is learning to embrace technology through virtual therapy sessions, child therapists have found themselves at a loss when trying to engage with their clients, and struggle to assist children and families in reaching their therapeutic goals. Our Engage Play Therapists have found that some of the most symptomatic clients have regressed due to a lack of engagement in virtual treatment.
Traditional in-office play in therapy provided therapists with an organic experience, one which naturally helped build an alliance between a client and therapist, yet using play therapy techniques to keep a child engaged in treatment without the proper tools has proven to be a difficult task. Engage Play Therapy solves these problems by combining face-to-face meetings through a HIPAA-compliant virtual platform while simultaneously accessing two player therapeutic games and activities like Connect 4, card games, question decks, and Checkers.
As therapists, it is our responsibility to keep children mentally healthy and safe during these difficult times. We also want to make therapy a more pleasant, effective, and engaging experience for both the child and the clinician. Will we ever go back to a traditional office setting? We cannot answer that question, but we can adapt and start using technology in our favor. Let's welcome the future of child therapy with Engage Play Therapy.
